Of course, there are a whole lot of differences when it comes to Denmark and India. Most are visible – the weather, the colours around or should I say, the lack of them? But did you know that the Danes have a different approach to sending job applications too? I came to Denmark with the hope of finding a job and only after attending many seminars did I realize, that well, it’s done way differently here! Here is a list of what I have gathered:
- The Cover Letter / Application / Letter of Motivation holds a good amount of weight and must work as an appetizer for your CV. Highlight achievements from your CV in relation to the job advertisement via bullet points. Keep the letter at A4 size at the most.
- Personal Profile: No employer back home expected to read about your personal traits in your CV. But you probably know that the Danes want to hire the ‘whole person’ and not just the skill sets. Mention your strengths / interests & hobbies in a paragraph.
- Like most other things, the Danes prefer your picture in Black & White too!
- Address the job ad. Both, in your CV and application. Be honest about your experience and no not over-promise.
- Your profile must be altered for every job application and your core competencies are to be highlighted in response to the job ad.
- Detail your job experience chronologically and explain tasks using bullet points. Make it detailed, yet, reader-friendly.
- In the end, try and keep the resume to 2 pages, unless you have no choice
